Betty Humphreys (Nee Prehnal)

How do you sum up the life of a beautiful mom, grandma, and great-grandma in a few words? She spent too much time worrying about others; wouldn’t say no to anyone needing help, whether they asked for it or not, and she found it difficult to say yes when she needed help! Her love, selflessness, and generosity could cover pages. If there are angels assigned to walk the earth, she was one of them. She gave so much of herself caring for family and friends, and donated to numerous charities. Her love of animals was endless, even feeding the neighborhood cats every day!
Betty worked at Briggs & Stratton for 30 years and met her husband Richard, while working at the American Can Co. in Chicago. If it weren’t for Dad suffering a bloody nose, in need of a handkerchief, they may have never connected. Although as the story went, Dad already had his eye on her and his interest wasn’t fully shared until that nosey encounter. Mom was a huge sports fan; the Cubs, Brewers, Bears, and Packers! She would often be torn when the teams played against one another. She loved playing cards with family and friends, her bowling league days, reading her Kindle, and donated occasionally to area casinos. And oh how we remember her holiday dinners! Her energy tank was always full.
On December 6, 2015, Betty joined her husband, family members, and dear friends who passed on before that she missed so much. Dick & Betty enjoyed 60 years of marriage. She has left a big hole in the hearts of her sons Rick (Candi) and Ron (Jean), her grandchildren David (Michelle), Kathryn, Daniel, Megan, and newest family members Lilah and Samuel. We feel blessed knowing how fortunate we were to have her for as long as we did.
As she would always say, whenever we would part ways “I love you” just as she did on her last night on earth.
Betty’s family requests any donations be made to the Humane Society as she appreciated their efforts caring for animals.
