On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Janet (Gill) Meloy slipped into the loving arms of Jesus and entered the Kingdom of Heaven.
She is survived by her husband of many years, Richard, daughter Jennifer (Will) Emory of Menomonee Falls, WI, daughter Kathleen (Ivo) Knezevic of Lincolnshire, IL, and son Daniel of Washington, D.C. She is further survived by grandchildren Chelsea, Meghan, and Mitchell Emory and Alexander and Charles Knezevic.
Jan, as she preferred to be called, was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison where she majored in elementary education. Upon graduation she taught 1st grade for several years. Over the years she also taught Sunday school and was very active as a Girl Scout leader. Jan felt she was blessed to be able to grow up “in the country” where she was able to indulge in what she loved best – interacting with growing things. Her love of gardening grew into a passion and she became a Master Gardener.
After her husband’s retirement they spent the next decade traveling to all corners of the world and were able to set foot on all seven continents.
Jan was an active member of PEO Chapter CV and served several terms as president. She was also an active member of Jerusalem Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Deacons. However, her greatest joy came with organizing and coordinating the annual Christmas cookie sale which raised thousands of dollars for the Kettle Moraine Food Pantry.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at
Jerusalem Presbyterian Church in Wales, WI on Saturday, April 8.
Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 to 11:00 am with the service at 11:00.
A buffet lunch will be served following the service at
18 West Grille & Banquets in Delafield.
The family has requested no flowers due to Jan’s passionate dislike of funeral floral arrangements. Instead, memorials may be made to Jerusalem Presbyterian Church or to PEO Wisconsin Chapter CV.
